I've been using the APTWP for years. IMO if you need to make water in a hurry ( which sometimes is the case ) it's much better than an expensive RO/DI unit. The quantity you get does depend on your tapwater to begin with but there is no waste.

I've heard good things about it, so I just got one myself. Couldn't find it on any of the MO sites, but my local Petco had it. Was very easy to set up.

The one problem that I do have with it is trying to maintain the proper GPH. It must be 10, but my faucet pressure keeps changing, so it's almost impossible to keep it exactly at 10GPH. Does anyone else have a problem with this, and how do you fix it?

If you have the money get a TFC or HI-S RO unit. You will get much more water for your dollar. Don't get me wrong, the TWP does create high quality water. But,it does not produce a lot of high quality water. It would serve as a great add-on to a RO unit to produce almost perfect water.

On the topic of the flow rate, that 10gph does not have to be strictly adhered to. As long as the flow is not more than 10gph. If you only make 8gph you will have water that has had more contact with the resins and may be even purier. The drawback is that you will have to wait longer for more water.

I use 2 TWP in series. I can increase the GPH and still get quality water. I've read somewhere before that you can increase it to 25GPH with this method by using the universal faucet adapter(not the suction cup). The refills are costly however and using it as an adjunct to a small RO/TFC is probably a good idea if refills are a cost issue.

I run my RO output water thru the Aquarium Pharm. TWP.I get 24 Ms out of the RO,1-2 Ms on the twp output. I've made approx. 100 gallons so far and the TWP is 1/10 purple.I was only getting 50 gallons out of a TWP before I used it with my RO.

They make high quality water in the beginning of the cartridge life but it deteriorates at different rates depending on your source water quality. Don't count on getting at least 50g/cartridge as I think they specify. I didn't when I tried one of these years ago. If you exceed the useable life of the cartridge you end up dumping all the bad stuff back into your effluent. Some people regenerate the cartridges themself. This is possible and if you search the net you will find instructions. I never figured it was worth it. Anyway when I got sick of buying cartridges and adjusting flow rates with this thing I cracked down and bought a good quality RO/DI. I've never regreted that purchase. If you are trying to save money or just getting started it may be worth a try IMO but if you stick with this you'll probably end up with a RO/DO.

I have been using 2 TWP in series, for 2 years now.... cant complain.

And I simply re-charge my resins at home, and you get 2 new cartridges for a few bucks. The procedure is fairly easy.

For now I cant justify, spending $ on a RO/DI unit.

I started with a TWP because my water needs were modest. As the number of tanks increased, it became more cost-effective to step up and buy an RO unit.

I bought a 3-stage Dolphin from AquaFX and hooked the output line from the RO unit into the TWP. Now it is an RP/DI unit.

See what your water needs are and what your wallet can handle. IME the TWP is good for around 50 gallons. More or less depending on the quality of your water source.

If you go to the Articles section of reefs.org, there's 2 sets of instructions--a very long and detailed one, and the 2 page edited version. The chemicals are easily bought at any decent hardware store.

There's nothing complicated to it. If you can follow instructions, then you shouldn't have a problem. The waste is safe to send to the sewer.

Cost to me:
2 gallons Muriatic acid @ $6 (~40 recharges)
12oz Red Devil pure lye @ $2 (~3 recharges)

So, it costs about a buck to recharge a column. First time for any cartridge takes maybe 2 hrs. After that, it's around an hour each.
