Hello, everyone.
Is the level of Phosphate critical in reef-keeping?
Phosphate of my 90gal reef tank is 0.5-1.0PPM which results from test with Surlifert kit.
My set-up has been 3 months and start to put corals and inverts in my tank.
I'm sure light and current is enough.
Under this condition,I doubt if LPS,SPS and soft corals could thrive.
Parameters are as follows:
- temp ; 82-84
- nitrate ; 0
- ca ; 450ppm
- ph ; 8.1-8.3

Should I run RO/DI purifier?
Any comment would be greatly appreciated?
TIA

Defenately run RO/DI, at a minimum just run RO. Phospahtes are resopnsible for the growth of problem Algie. You will need your phosphates to be zero. There are two types of phosphate removel, the first is a aluminum based compund that makes the phosphate bind together untill they get large enough to gets caught in your filter wool. This type of phosphate removal is very slow to take effect and can be damaging to corals over long pereods of time. The second is a new product called Rowaphos, this actually absorbs phosphate and removes it from the water column alltogether. This product is not harmfull to corals and can be used in large quantities and will last you about 18 months. Alternitavely, you could grow a Calurpa refugeum on a 24hour pohotopereod. You must get rid of phosphates because if you expirience any die back on corals they will get infected with algie and die. Phosphates are a greatly miss understood problem, you cannot grow a reef with it. Remember there not plants!
