Can i drip both of these powder in at the same time? And another problem is , my LFS told me to use a plenum for my DSB. However , i read on the Net it is not advisable to do this. So should i include a plenum?

Why would you need to drip both both? I think most people work with one or the other. I recommend kalk because it helps with the algae problems you will have.

Plenums are said to create problems. It was the "old" way to do things.

I think you are on the right track - always double check what anyone tells you. Every question you ask will get you at least 10 different answers. Then you can weed though and make an informed decision based on what is presented to you. That said, there are much more qualified people than me on this board to answer these questions.

I do not dose kalk cos i am worried about overdoing it and cause my Ph to rise. Furthermore i do not have a Ph probe to measure the solution to see if it is saturated.

Dosing Kalk (Calcium Hydroxide) is a great way to maintain your calcium, pH, and alkalinity. First get test kits for pH, calcium and alk before you start dosing. I add kalkwasser for my make up water, so when my tank evaporates it gets freshwater and kalk. Some people also do a slow drip. Don't worry too much about overdosing, just go real slow, try using a little kalk at first and test every few days until you figure what you calcium needs are.

Do you mean a powder for calcium and another powder for alkalinity?

If that's the question then no you can't dose both at the same time. The reason is that if you do then the much of the two powders will combine to form calcium carbonate.
