Looks like your big tank is coming along nicely. You should tag along with Barry and I when we go to Jeff's next in LA. He had nice sized Deresas for 20 bucks... We both spent a couple hundred bucks each on odds and ends between Jeff's and Ocopus Garden on the way home. I picked up to Acros and to yellow leathers too.

Tanks looks good keep it up...

Howdy,

Harrison, where is Ocopus Garden? Is that closer to you guys in SD, or somewhere up here in LA?

Thanks,

Scott.

Octopuss gardens is in san diego off the 15 off of clairmont mesa blvd. Off Convoy.

Its in a small office park and theyre big on props. They get alot from local reefers. Its quite common to be able to go in and buy 5 and 10 dollar small frags of various montipora and acropora which makes trips to the store more fun as new stuff is there almost every day.

<sigh>

I've been told both. The squamosa ID comes from the ridges sticking out near the bottom of the shell (not really visible in the pic).

Any particular reason you guys think it's a derasa?

well....
squamosas have a little more pronounced scutes than the one in the pic, and they usually have a distinct mantle pattern.

derasas usually have a smoother shell than that.and ive never seen one with a mantle like that either.
but it does look like this:

gigas photo from sanjay's site.

but if you have a pic from the other side we can probably tell. squamosas have alot of fringes at the inhalent siphon.

Here's a picture of two Squamosa clams. I guess the reason I say your looks like a Derasa is because it looks like a Derasa
