Cubera, I have been using Kent Marine Pro Buffer DKH and I cannot get my DKH to rise. It currently is at 5.08 but I does as bottle says and he isnt really moving. How long does it normall take? Is there another buffer that would be a better choice to bring up my DKH because my calcium is at 450.
Also both were tested with the Red Sea Alk and Calcium tests. If that is a mistake which one should I try?
Wow. 5 is pretty low. Buy yourself a Salifert test kit. You can get is for a good price at www.fishsupply.com . How often do you do a water change and what % of the tank volume do you change? You might want to do a series of 33% water changes to get things back in line.
I typically double Kent's recommended dosage to get any kind of result. I suggest you do the same and keep testing on a daily basis (with Salifert). You should see an increase in the dkh almost immediately.
I found Kent's pro buffer dkh to be woefully inadequate in raising alk. I now use Seachem's Reef Builder with very good results.
You probably have an ionic imbalance between calcium and alk, and you may need to do some water changes to make things more balanced. Without the water changes it may take a long time to see results no matter what you add. Do a search for b ionic for a more detailed discussion of such an imbalance (sorry I cant be more helpful with details here).
Try the better test kits before you do anything.

Hi, jemi. Do you test for dKH and Calcium?? Try to keep Calicim above 400 and dKH between 8 and 12. Coralline should then blossom under the lighting you describe. ESV B-Ionic is a balanced solution that should enable you to get the desired numbers and results.
