Here's a beginner's question: I'm moving into my first house, and want to step up to a larger sized reef tank, something 100-150 gallons... I went to the LFS, and found that they don't have anything that large in stock certainly, and didn't even carry much in the way of accessories for tanks of this size (100+ gallons)... Where do I go for such a large tank?? Should I see if I can special order at the LFS or would it be best to have one freighted to me? Thanks in advance for newbie help.

Depends on type you want, All-glass or arcylic. Not sure where you could locate an all-glass that size, but I know that a site called reegeek.com sells acrylics of all shapes/sizes, and can special order, or have pre-drilled. Seems a little pricey, but they do have package deals.

I would suggest checking at a few pet places near you. Even Petco here has 100 to 135 gallon tank on hand. It would be cheaper if you could find one in a store near you. If it isn't possible, then try Cquariums.com, or Petwarehouse.com or just run a search and something should come up. You can find just about anything you want on the web.

but you don't know exactly what you are going to get til it gets to you. So be careful.

talk to as many LFS's as possible, and compare prices for the tank/stand the rest you can get on-line and will get a lot cheaper - the shipping of a tank and stand will cost a fortune and ensure that you end up paying the same as the LFS will charge you - I was very honest with my LFS, told them what I wanted and how much I could get it for on-line, if they could compete, I gave them the business, if not I bought on-line - just don't get them to do all the pricing if your not serious about buying eg if you just want the tank let them know that otherwise they sometimes start discounting as a whole package.
