O.K., the beta test results are posted online at http://www.inlandreef.com/flatoutresults.html.

These are the verbatim comments from the testers. Of the 8 test results posted, 6 are positive and 2 negative. We have since revised the instructions to attempt to handle some of the problems encountered, although there are still a few mysteries in one of the results.

I think with the revised instructions we are ready to commercialize the product. We need to contract out the label printing for the first run of 100-500 bottles, so I'm not sure how long it will be before you can buy it.

Thank you to everyone that participated!

Reading those results.. I wouldn't think that was a product ready for market and lable printing.. I would think more testing would be in order. I'm not sure I see the point anyways.. there are other "meds" that kill flatworms in an overnight setting, and while they have minor effect on the inverts, the only deaths I've ever seen come from massive infestations dying off, which is probably what you saw here.. but I'm not sure there is an advantage to something like this over basic greenex, which is like 2 dollars in cost.

Not that I advocate greenex in a reef either.. but the results are similar.

We will likely run one more series of tests before we begin product sales, please don't ask us to be a tester we have plenty thankyou.

I'm confident that the product is not causing the problem but the toxins from the worms themselves. This product is much less stressful to a reef tank than Greenex (which isn't a real effective flatworm control not to mention it stains the aquarium silicone) and Marine Oomed wipes out too many other things. Flat-out has very little effect on the other fauna and most importantly other worm fauna that is in your sandbed. In fact we have yet to duplicate the coral stresses that have been reported even with stronger than recommended dosages.

Nope, not shipping yet. I don't have an estimate when we will, it got put on the backburner when business picked up. Only so many hours in a day and other projects have a priority, we do still plan on bringing it to market and we will definitely make that fact known when we are ready to ship.

Same as my last post- I would expect to see something soon as the phone calls, emails, faxes and carrier pigeons that we get every day are reaching a critical mass

However this is the height of the year for this industry sales-wise and we are extremely busy with the day to day operations of our store. When we have the time to work on the project we do - but those moments are currently few and far between. Yes it works, we will announce here and everywhere else when the product is ready for prime time.

Nope - trust me it won't be a secret when it is.

FYI - The beta test is LONG over. We aren't interested in anyone else to help test it. Emailing us asking for some will just net you a form letter response. When the product is shipping, I assure you it will be made quite public.

We are quite aware of the demand, but this is the busiest time of the year for us and there just isn't enough manhours available at the moment - taking care of the day to day operations of the store and internet sales have priority. We are actively pursuing bringing the product to market. No I'm not going to make any promises on a shipping date.

We thank you for your interest and patience.

Interesting thread! I thought it common knowledge that massive die offs of flatworms can wipe out a tank. Sounds like an interesting new product.

It seems to me that to try out a product such as this requires some controls. How about testing it on a tank WITHOUT any flatworms to see the effects? If the dying planaria are the proposed cause of some of the problems seen, then using it in a tank without planaria should be in order.

Also I agree that the sample size is rather small. How can you justify doing a run of 500 bottles based on only 8 tests?? One in 8 is a 12.5% failure rate, thats 125 dead tanks for every 1000 bottles. I don't know about anyone else, but that seems a little high. I'd like to see more testing and tweaking done to dosage recommendations. For example, how much of the active ingredient is actually need to be effective? You really should run a bioassay on this stuff.

It's easy to get excited about early successes but you need to temper that with thorough testing before going to market.

Just my 0.02 cents worth. :)

If you have tested it on more than 8 tanks i would be curious to see the results of these test. Were they your own personal tanks or more common day people. Your post of the 8 tanks tested is just insufficent.
