i've decided to redo the rockwork in my 120g. i'm not very pleased w/ it and i know it can look 100% better. after i finish doing the groceries i'll get to work on the tank.

here's pic of the current rock work then:

what i would like to do is make a larger mound in the middle of the tank. if all goes well i'll make some improvements in the sump tomorrow.

Its not about the weight. Its about being able to securely place the rocks. If the structure is solid without water it will be stay put with water. You get cleaner placement with the tank partially drained. Also, the water does not cloud up as much and interfere with your view.

Its just my opinion and Ive always had excellent results. Give it a try next time and see how it comes out.

Your aquascaping came out nice.

i appreciate the honesty. but this new landscape has so many more benefits(eg: water circulation)

btw there are parts of the reef that look like this. but in a much larger version.

Looks really nice. If your going to have to take the setup down in the near future but would like to try to replicate again, perhaps you should consider placing posts into the rock. Doing so will make putting the puzzle back to get together much easier, as well as adding the additional strength to the structure. Really nice job again.

That is a great remodel. I think the look terrific!

As you had the eye to do this, I wouldn't worry about rebuilding it after your move. Whatever you create at your new place might not be exactly as it is now, but I'll bet it will be just as great!
