Spotted Boxfish Ostracion Meleagris - This is it! Male and female look different. Male (Blue) Female (Black)

I have two of the
Yellow Boxfish (Ostracion Cibius).

They look sweet as can be but hold on to your money brother!

They are very delicate and they do not ship well and if you are lucky enough to get them to your house alive they don't last very long. I have a friend who went through several of them before he gave up.

If there is one thing in this hobby that should always be the first thing on your mind it is this...... you get what you pay for. Cheap usually ends up being more expensive in the long run in this hobby. At those prices I would assume they tranship all their stock. Which is fine but I doubt they take much care of it after that or do any quarantining or treatments. Its always better to buy locally and put eyes on what you want. It might cost a few bucks more up front but atleast you know how it is healthy and unstressed when you get it.

I had a female for two years and a male for almost two years. The male was huge and definitely old. The female I bought at NWA really small. My skimmer went crazy when I was not home and loaded my tank with microbubbles. That ended up killing her. I appreciate the advice though. I think they are much easier to keep when you buy them small. The male I had would only eat mysis. The female on the other hand would eat anything including dried seaweed and pellets. I wouldn't discourage people from keeping them. I would recommend buying them small though as it seems easier to get them eating a variety of foods.

I agree with you about shipping. I never ended up ordering them. These boxfish seem to be more sensitive to ingesting air than some others I kept (long horn, Yellow and even Shaw's).

Freshmarine are crooks. Stay Away! I ordered an item from them the box was empty when I received it. I called them and sent it back now they say it doesn't weigh th esame and won't refund. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Empty box and no refund? That is ridiculous. There was only one story that tops that and it was between NY Aquatic (Vendor here) and a member who had suspicions that the UPS person took thier fish and then decided to re-deliver it. It was even in a different baggie

I gave them a try last week because some of a dozen tangs/clowns I couldn't find at no wholesalers, and they seemed located just a few miles away but didnt offer pickup so at least the fish would not be stressed much coming from such a short distance within the same county.

I RECEIVED A LARGE BUT LIGHT FISH BOX ON TUESDAY APRIL 1, 2014 via UPS.

When I opened it I was shocked that THERE WERE ONLY SIX TINY SPECIMENS OF THE DOZEN FISH I ORDERED AND ALL WERE DEAD! And looked rotting like the vendor is in the business of shipping dead fish. They were not professionally bagged, not doubled, and leaking water all over. The rest of the items the shipper didnt even bother to ship.

Okay, business is bad in this economy but DAMN! I could not reach anyone by phone or email. Luckily I live close to the UPS customer service center in cerritos, ca so I drove over and explained the scam and they accepted a return billed to sender.

I drove to their biz address and it is a GAS STATION! When I got back home I filed a credit card dispute and then did some googling and found freshmarine.com is also associated with an ADULT NOVELTY online store called Jumbohut.

I know I said never mail ordering fish again before with liveaquaria, but damn, this takes April Fool's to a whole new level as I cannot understand the mentality of a business with a professional looking website scamming people left and right so bad they get-off on celebrating it like that evenmoreso on my April 1 delivery by sending some DEAD fish to 'fill' the order.

Should I alert the FBI or INTERPOL about this scam, how??

Do not Buy from this company

I just purchased a Lion fish from this so called company. When i received the fish it had died. This company is located in California and I live in NY. This poor fish was packaged in a normal box with a 1/4" foam insulation...that is it. The box was not label live fish handle with care. There was no heating pads to keep the fish at the correct temperature during transport, so when i received the fish the water in the bag was ice cold. No packaging peanuts to keep the bag from rolling around inside the box. I have bought fish online before from Liveaquaria..maybe this company should buy a fish from Liveaquria to see how to properly ship a live fish. So i called the company and they denied that the box the fish was shipped in was theirs and denied a refund. What a joke. I wonder how many other fish they have shipped died this way.
