I was in the middle of a divorce ;).... just kidding :shhh:
I got that stuff when I wasn't knowledgeable about bad things in the hobby (crap that can kill you) I progressed very fast after reading alot more and doing research on what I was getting instead of taking advice from jerky LFS personel.

I just wish there was an authority that would do something about things like this.If its on display its probably for sale and some unsuspecting customer could wind up being badly hurt.

I had one years ago. Man was I stupid. I kept in a critter cage for a few days the saw that it was a she, and SHE was carry an egg sack like a bunch of basketballs in a net. Thought it was cool until until one morning I saw her push the egg sac out of the vents in the critter cage. Before I could get a net in to get them they scattered across my 120 reef. I had nightmares of cleaning behind my rocks, getting stung by a baby Blue ring and Dying face down in the tank. Bleached the tank. Broke my heart. Blue rings should never even be harvested! Oh well I was 16 thought it would be cool. Man was I an idiot. Think I paid 25 bucks for it back then. What an a$$

Medical treatment for this octo bite is the same as eating blowfish. It is tetrodotoxin. It stop brain signals from reaching your lung to let you breath. It is similar if not the same as polytoxin. All you have to do is put yourself on a artificial breathing machine and after 24 hours you should be fine.

"The venom contains tetrodotoxin, which blocks sodium channels and causes motor paralysis and occasionally respiratory failure. Though with fixed dilated pupils, the senses of the patients are often intact. The victims are aware but unable to respond."

This is one of the worst experiences someone can go through. Just like waking up in the middle of surgery and feeling the pain but not being able to talk or move.

SYMPTOMS

Onset of nausea.
Hazy Vision. ( Within seconds you are blind.)
Loss of sense of touch, speech and the ability to swallow.
Within 3 minutes, paralysis sets in and your body goes into respiratory arrest.

I think I will pass on ever keeping one.

I wouldnt be surprised if they already are illegal to own and/or import. Alot of animals which are illegal to own in NYC are readily bought within NYC - many crocidlians, small RES turtles, burmese pythons. The laws are there for the most part for sensible reasons. The problem is that they aren't enforced. If the blue-ring is not listed as illegal it is most likely because it is under the radar - much easier to ban things like 20 ft. Burmese pythons.
