I used to almost never level my tanks and I've been pretty lucky. I notice the bowfront tanks MUST be level or else they WILL leak. But on a regular rectangular tank, if it's slightly unlevel, it should be ok... no?

i have never had a tank perfectly level.
i had a 90 that was out 1/4" up for 2 yrs no problems.
my 300 is less than 1/8 out.
personally i dont think 1/8 is critical.

Wouldn't you rathe be safe then sorry. Especially on a 65 if it isn't level it isn't a big deal to drain and level. It's two brute cans worth of water to drain. Iv'e had a tank crack on me. I think leveling is very important.

I don't think any of my 5 tanks are level. I even purposely had the 2'x4' stand for my in wall 120g pitched back and to one corner so that if the tank overflowed from mechanical failure, it would not ruin the wall. Been like that for 8 years :)

there is a reason the tank makers say to level the tank and not being level will in most cases void the warranty. it is not hard to level any tank and it what should be done. not being level opens the door for a disaster and the larger the tank the more important it is. an un level tank can burst. a larger tank that burst can cause either injury or kill someone that may be standing there. would any one want there child standing in front of a tank that can burst? just asking.
