ATO and mixing station water

Hey, how does everyone store their ATO and mixing station water. Both of mine are in brute garbage cans with their covers on and connected to my RO/DI system which always keeps them full. Everytime I take the lid off i smell mold/mildew... Today I noticed I have some algae buildup in the mixing station can. I've dumped the water and cleaned the can more than once but this always seems to happens and is causing a cyano outbreak in my tank... Any ideas on better storage??

Hm, I keep my fresh ro/di water in a brute can, with the top on, but with a pump on 24/7. I take the top off at least 2 times a week etiher just to remind myself of the water lvl or to do a water change.
I have never seen mold or algae growing in there.

Not sure where the algae would come from if you don't have a light source....

I do smell a ...musty scent some times, but only if I mistakenly unplugged the pump.

Is this happening in both containers?

Hey, I don't keep a pump running 24/7 just for an hour a couple of times a day. The mixing station has a bigger hole so it might be enough light. The ATO has a smaller hole and doesn't have any. I guess I should run pumps 24-7 to start.
