Apex Neptune Worth It?

Hey everyone my cousin just got his apex in the mail and now is second thinking it if he should get a refund. What do you guys think? Should he keep it or not, personally I don't see it needed besides the coolness factor of controlling your tank on your phone...

My point is who cares what everyone ells thinks ,only he knows if it is worth it to him and his current situation.

Is it a good product? IMOP yes I love mine.
Could I run my tank with out it? YES
Do I think its cool? YES
Do I care if your cousin has one? NO

Basically what are the benefits compared to not having one besides viewing and turning pumps on and off on your phone?

+1 just the peace of mind knowing that you can be away from your tank and still monitor/control it is worth it to me.

Tank automation, Ph, temp control , lights, etc is always a huge plus to have on a reef tank...

A huge plus. I can go away for 10 days and know exactly what's going on with my tank. Pair it with an IP camera and I can see what I'm reading on Apexfusion. I'm glad I got this controller when I started this hobby. A real piece of mind.

Definitely keep it. As already mentioned, leaving the tank alone for just a few days, it'll pay itself off. But if he's by his tank every day, probably not. Still many VERY successful reefers running without one.

/typed this just after checking Apex Fusion, noticed tank temp is a bit higher and adjusted central AC with Nest thermostat. Then logged into my Foscam and took a quick glance at the tank. Saw both Masked Swallowtail Angels out and about makes me giddy (One was more dominated last week and chased the other into hiding). Oh and, all this one while sitting by the pool in Turks and Caicos.

I recently got an apex and here is my take.

Is it worth $549?
IMO no.
Some of the nicest things it can do requires you to buy a breakout box. (And the EB8 obviously)

I bought mine used and I'm getting a breakout box Monday.

With the breakout box I totally see it being worth the investment.

For instance, my skimmer has overflowed in the past, causing a nasty puddle on the floor.
With the controller/ breakout box I will mount a float on my skimmate container. And it will shut off the skimmer if it's gets to a certain level.

The same will be done on my sump for the return pump and chiller pump.
If water level drops It will shut them off preventing a burnt out return and chiller pump.

Many more useful things can be done with the breakout box.

With the controller alone, you are somewhat limited to just monitoring and turn on/off outlets

I do have an IP can and it is pretty cool!

Whatever our opinions, ultimately is his decision.

Hey i appreciate all the input I will direct him to this post and see what he says. Too me personally if away from the tank most of the time without anyone to immediately respond to a problem with the tank....its worth it.

Also how do you hook up a camera to it? Thats pretty sick
