Sun Coral

Hi,

Wanted to know how to make a sun coral open...? Its in a shade inside a nice cave with not much light or flow.....feeding 3 times a week with either mysis shrimp or pellets soaked in water.....but doesn't seem to open..

Any suggestions?

It took mine a while to open even in a cave. About a month. Now it's open every day during the light cycle.

ok what u feed and how often do you feed now? Also, now that they are open....do u still keep them in shade/cave or they are in open now under light?

Mine is halfway in the cave and halfway out. I feed coral frenzy every other day.

it can't sense light, but can smell food. It won't open if it doesn't smell anything. It needs very high flow. Once you train it to what ever food you're using, it will open up for it automatically. Right now it will probably recognize Mysis as food. Once you get it to open, you can train it to eat anything that will fit/stick to the tentacles . Smaller the better, too big and it will dump the food out without digestion.


I kept mine in the overflow box and it did very well there, though I couldn't see it. Later I moved it out where it was quickly smothered in hair algae and died out.

Do you blast food in its direction, if possible when your pumps are in a "twirl" mode so that it stays close to it? This is the best way to "teach them" to open.

Geraud -yes when i feed them....i switch off the pumps for a while and target feed them...

Have you tried other foods, for instance cyclop-eeze? (that is what I use on mine)

They love cyclop eeze.
That and oyster eggs...
