There is none. You will get a lot of different answers based on individual experience but you will need to ask yourself a few questions first. There are some skimmers that have their pumps submersed in the tank. If you want it, fine, but it doesn't look very good and create some heat issues. There are also skimmers that have the main chambers square or rectangular or round. If your tank is already set up, you will need to look at the dimensions. I would personally go with a skimmer that is rated for about 75 gallons. Reef Octopus BH-1000 is one of them. It is also pretty easy to be silenced if the original silencer is not enough.

I have Reef Octopus BH-1000 on my 55 tall for 2 years now I have it hanging on my sump till I upgrade. works really good after the break in period (about 2 weeks. they say 1 but its 2). can be a little noisy but it quiets or I just got use to it. for the money after you dial it in it works great. now before I get slammed it keeps my tank clean and when I clean the cup its doing its job. I never had any other skimmer to compare it to. but my tank looks good and the fish and coral are healthy. just keep an eye on it for the first 2 or 3 day it may go a little crazy till you get use to it. and check out the YouTube videos to help setup and dial in. mark the cup when you do dial in so after cleaning you can put the o ring back in about the same position. sorry for long response guys and gals. any questions that I can help with inbox me.

Check out the aquamaxx skimmer line. I have the JNS WS-1 (JNS is the oem for aquamaxx and warner marine) and I love it.

I'm admittedly a little OCD but I don't trust external or hob skimmers. Too many leak points. The JNS sits in tank.

This is a great HOB. They used to be called the Warner Marine H2. Almost the exact same skimmer. Highly recommended, and not just by me. This is a solid skimmer choice.

Sorry, but this is not a good skimmer. I honestly have no idea how these still get sold. They're inefficient, loud, and need cleaning constantly. I had one a long time ago and would never buy one again. My father had one on his tank (got it as part of a tank package) and ended up taking it off and storing it. They're garbage.
