Hi All,

Just wanted to share an experience with you all that happened 15 mins back with me...i had set up a 29 biocube which started to leak all of a sudden and so i had to look on MR if someone was selling any used tank....that's when i noticed a 38 gal IM Nuvo put up on sale for 120$...without wasting much time i called the fellow reefer and we cut the deal and i drove all the way from NJ today to pick up the tank as i had the urgency to transfer everything from the leaking 29 gal biocube to a new tank...

I picked up the tank and came home....since the compartments weren't cleaned, i decided to give the tank a vinegar bath....so i just removed the pump and started adding water in the compartments....the moment water got added till the mid level....the black partition between the tank and the compartments POPPED out from the sides.....i was surprised and i immediately texted the seller, if this was normal or was the partition broken already......the fellow reefer without being much concerned about the situation immediately started accusing me that " u must have broken the partition while cleaning, u must have pushed it hard with your hands and he cannot refund the money now and i should be MAN enough to accept my mistake and he doesn't have time for all this BS etc etc etc".....

I was speechless and i kept repeating to the reefer that i am honest and i did not even touch the tank to clean it, i only removed the pump to add water and the partition just popped out, but he kept on accusing me of something that i did not do.....

So i stopped texting back and just decided to write on MR about this experience and pour my heart out coz we all are here on MR for a reason - "REEFING" and that we are reefers, hobbyists, some are newbies (like me), some are senior members, some are veterans in this hobby with loads of experience and after such an experience, i feel that there is no humanity left and why am i in this hobby where i am forced to accept a mistake i didn't make!

Still i am 'MAN' enough to not disclose the name of the fellow reefer or give him a 'bad rating'.......in the end i am short of words and don't know what more to say as i feel duped, cheated and fooled......

I learned a lesson today that never to trust anyone.....

Cmantis - Its not about whether it can be siliconed or not.....now ill have to run to home depot/lowes to get silicone but this whole experience has let me down.....i appreciate for your help offered.....but i am not an expert in this....looks like i will have to scrape the old silicone first and then use new silicone.....my biocube is leaking and now i dont have a tank and i am back to square 1!!

I know I am really sorry this happened to you definitely a bad situation. Wish I could be of more help. If you do go to HD or Lowes don't get silicone with any mold resistance. I would try Target they sell aquarium silicone where the tools/tapes are.

This is a lesson to everyone about buying used tanks!!!! If your gonna buy the tank and they want to make the sale , have them fill it up while it's in the sellers house and inspect it when it's holding water !! However this person shouldn't go unpunished for what he did ! He's just gonna walk away 120 richer ........ Did you use PayPal ???

Make sure you get the right silicone. There is a type 1 and 2. I forgot which one has the anti mold stuff. Do you have a picture of the new tanks damage? Does the chamber divider still remain standing? That part doesn't need to be water tight. You can even use super glue if its how I picture it.

Sometimes it just doesn't pay to buy used equipment.

I almost went and picked up this tank this weekend, absolutely glad I didn't!

Also looking from Rookie2reef's thread & post history, a vast majority of his threads are for sale items....

I am in Caldwell and have a 10g tank you're welcome to if it'd help you out.

super glue it. The pressure of the water will also push it against the lip. It will be good to go in 5 minutes.

First of all I am the one that sold the tank and if u check my ratings you can see that I have never sold any damaged tanks or equipment. I even showed the buyer before he bought the tank that everything including the original silicone was intact to assure him this tank will not leak. As he had already told me he had a previous "bad experience". Even the plastic partition that he says "popped out" was in place and sturdy as I had previously filled the tank and had no problems with it, even in my thread of pics it is in tact.... So he tried low balling me since he was traveling and had a "bad experience" and came over and purchased it. I was sympathetic to his situation and gave him time to check it out before he decided to buy. The back chambers were dirty, as I did not clean them.
So he gets home and sends me a pic of a immaculately clean tank with the back partition leaning forward BROKEN obviously as if he forced it off the silicone while he was cleaning.... (This piece is plastic) Then texts me that he "just filled it up with water and the piece came off, and he never touched the back" meanwhile in the pic you can clearly see he removed pump n hoses. The pump is missing from the back compartment where it was when he left, as he must have removed the pump with hoses and reached down to clean the bottom of the compartments once again which were dirty with everything fully connected when purchased. Filling a tank halfway will not remove a suctioned pump that was attached to the bottom of the glass tank and connected hoses .... How did this guy tell me he put "water in the tank to see if it's leaking" then write his story to everyone on MR playing the victim and now saying it was a vinegar bath...
It's just a coincidence that this is the second tank he decides to purchase that he says is "broken"..... (Back to the texting) So he continues telling me he did not clean the back chamber, he did not even "touch it" and he wants a refund. So he basically wants a refund for something he took home and damaged all on his own. I wouldn't even say broke, just foolishly mishandled the back plastic compartments while thoroughly cleaning or removing the pump and hoses. I told him he can re-silicone it, since he must have forced it out of place. (as it was intact when he left) and reminded him that he inspected the tank here with me before purchasing and I even pointed out the original silicone was intact, in good condition as he claims he bought a leaking tank before.
I can't believe that he would even make a thread on MR playing the victim when you have the clear option of giving a rating. I would not respond and go back and forth any further with this, just want my fellow reefers to know the truth. I'm man enough to say I'm the seller, look at pics on my thread of tank before purchase. And I don't feel it right everyone judging me only hearing one side of the story when the other person is playing victim and yes u are all welcome to check my ratings.
