To all the members of MR, Saltwater Critters wants to offer a 'free karma giveaway'. :)

In your post to enter the karma just tell us, 'I'm in it to win it' (or how will we know you're entered ;) ) and give a one sentence blurb about why you're in the reefing hobby. The blurb is not a judging contest (nor required to win). It's just because, so play along :)

Up for grabs are two (2) of these sets:

1 - Current TrueLumen LED 10" Strip Actinic Blue
1 - Current TrueLumen 12v Transformer

Each of two winners will receive one (1) Current TrueLumen LED 10" Actinic Blue Strip + one (1) Current TrueLumen 12v Transformer to be drawn by random.org on February 29, 2014.....ahhh, but there is no 2/29/14 this year :fishhit: so therefore we'll do it on the corresponding day, March 1st (that's a Saturday for those too lazy to check).

Of course it will be free shipping to the winners.

Rules of the karma (sorry, gotta have'm):
1 - One entry per person
2 - You MUST have at least 50 meaningful posts (they cannot be ~50 posts in the For Sale Marketplace)
3 - Two winners will be randomly drawn by Random.org (third party draw service)
4 - If you're banned before the draw, that's a bad thing and the next person in line wins it. So don't get banned before the end of the karma (we need to be able to contact you)!!!

That's it.......enjoy and good luck!

Russ

EDIT: Winners were drawn 3/1/14

Congrats to:

I'm in it to win it!!!.
I remember as a child my step father had a fresh water tank and did his best to fix it up nicely but we were struggling $$ wise. He would always say "One day I'm going to have a saltwater tank" (in spanish cause he spoke little to no english at the time). Long story short he/we never got the saltwater tank but I told myself I would have one some day and have been blessed enough to make that happen.
Didn't know this hobby would turn me into an addict though...LOL

Ps. Once in the hobby, I met a Renegade (who will remain nameless) and now there's no way I can ever leave. :D

I'm in it to win it!! The concept of having a vivid piece of the ocean and to run this self supporting ecosystem was and has been a true and amazing challenge. The opportunity to bridge my technical experience and diy capability has given me a hobby that stimulates my brain in every way! And it's awesome!!!

Cool idea Russ.

I'm in it to win it.
I am in this hobby because a great friend of mine introduced it to me in college. I was a marine bio major anyway but wasn't interested in a hobbyist way-just research. But it was contagious and grew from just helping her maintain the tank in admissions to taking it over when she graduated and now 10 years later I'm a science teacher (of 7 years) and make as many connections to marine science as I can regardless of the curriculum.

I'm in it to win it!!

My wife and I somehow inherited a saltwater tank when her uncle passed away a couple of years ago. Many noob mistakes and heartaches along the way, we have managed to get some corals to grow and to make our fishes fat.

in it to win it like styles P.

I'm in this hobby because I think it's amazing that there is a highly evolved world underwater, where life "flies" around in their own atmosphere, the water. Having a little slice right in the room is too awesome not to be into it. And corals look trippy under actinics.

I'm in it to win it!!

My grandfather was a hobbyist before it was cool. He would have been another PaulB. He had reef tanks since early 90s. Well before I could remember he was a VERY INTELLIGENT MAN, wealthy in morals and a very giving man. naturally, I took his fortunes because of how I would watch him take care of his reef/fish and he'd be at such a calm and happy state.

he was the one when I went into the navy that kept telling me how proud he was of me. one day out to sea I got a call that he passed away and I tore down on the side of my ship and ever since everytime they look at my tanks my family gets reminded of him and how beautiful his tanks were as well as how much he loved this hobby.

I fell in love with this hobby and still believe if you're a reefer you've done very well for yourself. it takes time, dedication and intelligence! tie in money somewhere because it definitely takes a toll on the wallet!

i'm in it to bump my post count. i don't want to win so don't put my name in the hat.

how did i get into reefing? jacque cousteau. i love watching his documentaries. i love visiting aquariums as a child. one day i thought it would be a good idea to have my own box of the ocean.
what a bad idea that was. it took a toll on my finances, relationship with the wife and kids, my freedom to go on vacation, and sleepless nights from anxiety, worries, heartbreaks, sitting in the dark starring at the tank, looking like a nutjob searching the tank with a red flash light for things i couldn't see during the day. it had consumed huge amount of time and energy. all the time i've spent reading and learning about the animals i keep. i used to drive all over the place to pick up corals....and i don't like driving(in traffics....and lets face it, there're always traffics.). it had become an addiction quite difficult to get under control. just when i thought i got it under control, here i am blabbering on mr instead of gathering receipts and statements for my accountant. (my accountant is also hooked with his starter 55 gal. reef tank)
was it all worth it? hmmm...hard to say....depending on the day.......

darn you jacque cousteau!!!
