what are the easiest most colorful corals to begin with? I know I am gonna find someone who is gonna say they are all easy but I am talking about for a beginner. I am looking forward to going to the frag farmers market next month and am just trying to get a idea of what to look for and price and size

I'm a beginner myself and I seem to have luck with most soft corals like zoanthids, leathers, and palys...

What size tank do you have? How long has it been running/cycling? Did you start out with all live rock or did you use all base rock? Do you have any fish? What are you water perimeters? I'm sure there are more questions but this is all I can think of right now.

for those that don't know me I have a 240 gallon display tank plumbed into a 125 gallon sump and 75 gallon fuge. I had to break down my tank a little over a month ago due to my wife adding copper power into my tank. Tank was broken down, given a good bath and restocked with new sand and new rock. Going through a mini cycle as of now. Ammonia is low but my nitrates are high. Will be adding a little more live rock to further seed my tank

Wow!! yea I'm new sorry..... That sucks man I'm sorry to hear that.... Was it a reef tank before? Don't sound like your much of a beginner... Sounds like an awesome setup tho! Like I said I'm new to the hobby.. my 120 is 7 months old and I have had great success with it.. I Think the use of all live rock from my LFS plus my deep sand bed has helped me greatly. I have seen many tanks that are years old with out any coralline... I know some don't like it and scrape it off but many can't grow it... My 7 month old tank is covered in it all of my back walls and most of my rocks are also covered in some chunky purple!!! As far as the corals everything that I said before have done well in my tank and I'm far from any type of professional... Zoanthids by far are super easy some say impossible to kill and come in crazy colors and patterns. That's my favorite coral if you can't tell lol. Sounds like you know what you are doing tho so good luck! Look forward to seeing some pics of what you buy! :)

I think copper being used (regardless of cleaning) makes your tank unsuitable for corals, forever.

Look into that!

Xenia aren't colorful, but very cool! Easy to grow also! Euphylia are also great for color/movement but are not super easy. Euphylia= torch, hammer, frogspawn, etc. do not get an elegance coral though, they are the toughest of all euphylia, not a "beginner" coral.

uh oh. rookie you just ruined my night. appreciate the honesty though. Before I throw any corals in my tank I plan on running poly pads and cuprisorb and getting a copper test kit.

I like the xenthia. I had the reddish one at one time. then I found out they come in blue also. definitely want some of the blue ones. I really do like the elegance. especially when they are big. I like the torches and the hammers and frogspawns. Prefer the purple but I still like them all.

When I go to the show(if I still go due to rookie ruining my night. LOL) I wanna find bright colors. Purple, pink, definitely red, blue, bright green. frags of that nature. anymore suggestions?

As others have stated, any kind of Euphyllia.

Yellow Polyps.

Purple Ribbon Gorgonian

Red and Yellow Gorgonians

And don't forget the GSP!

As for copper. Here is a former QT system, treated with copper, now acting as a temporary tank. This tank has been up and running since September of last year.

I even have SPS in there.

Your night can now get better.

@fish brain

so how did you get the copper out of your former qt system? and how long did it take?

I rinsed everything when I broke the QT down after Sandy and rinsed it out again, before I set it up in September when my 120 crashed.

That's all I did.

I was desperate at the time, after I lost all my SPS in the 120 and figured it couldn't get any worse in the 40B. To my surprise, despite all the wives tales, everything did ok. Last November I added the SPS and they are all growing over the frag plugs.
