I bought a pistol goby pair and didn't see my shrimp for a couple months. I thought he was gone and forgot about him and then one day i saw a puff of sand and there he was.. So he could still be somewhere under your rock work or in the back..

I go weeks at a time without seeing my shrimp, they hide and are more active at night. When the clasp their claw it makes a clicking sound that you can hear from outside of the tank. If you hear the clicking sound he's fine.
You can pair a Randall's Pistol Shrimp with:

-Diamond Watchman Goby
-Yellow Watchman Goby
-Orange Spotted Goby
-Pink Spotted Watchman Goby
-Randall's Shrimp Goby
-Tiger Watchman Goby
-Wheeler's Watchman Goby
-Pinkbar Goby
-Yasha Goby

Maybe your shrimp is ugly

may be the goby is too selfish and immature.....only letting the shrimp have only one underwear draw and a toothbrush but she wants a commitment and the whole closet.......oh wait we're talking about reef couple here....lol

i have my bull's eye pistol shrimp for like 7+years...the randalli goby died several years ago. i only see the shrimp once in a blue moon....yes blue moon....actinic night light. i do hear it every week though.

Mine disappeared. Last February, when I was on vacation, my friend who was taking care of the tank told me he thought it was living in my sump.
I looked for a while, never saw him.
In December (a year after it had disappeared), I was cleaning and took out the return pump to decalcify. After soaking it in the solution for about an hour, I went to wash it and saw the shrimp in the bucket. Unfortunately, it didn't survive the soak in the acid solution.
