Excuse me, it wasn't a LFS - got it at Petco while I was picking up some water - I am returning the shrimp today

Setup a trap last night, but instead of the shrimp in the trap I woke up this morning to a skeleton - ate my duncan coral! Tore the tank apart today and managed to net it

How is Petco not an LFS? They are a purveyor of livestock and drygoods. Just because they don't exclusively sell aquarium based goods and also carry other animals doesn't mean they aren't an LFS. Its all semantics.

While they are I guess still classified as a LFS, I think its understood why he was misinformed. Theyre just not up to the standards we are used to in this hobby. Its like asking someone at home depot where the egg crate is...

If we're getting into semantics, my definition of LFS exclusively sells fish livestock & supplies - Petco would more appropriately fall under the LPS umbrella - so I guess we can agree to disagree.

I returned the shrimp despite their no-return policy with some haggling. The woman was still telling me the Camel Shrimp was "reef safe" after I told her that it clearly ate my Duncan coral last night. Lesson learned - I think I'm done with the crab/shrimp scene, they are too unpredictable.

The reason I cant really except petco as a real lfs is cause as stated above the "no return" policy they have is ridiculous. I once offered to purchase a yellow tang that was obviously heavily infected with ich but only if they would offer me some kind of dicount due to the obvious lack of health(I have heard stories of other LFS doing this). And they refused. I then tried to make a point of bringing it to there attention that the fish needed some kind of attention and that was also a waste of my time. In the end it seemed theyd rather just let the fish die slowly than offer to send it home with someone who could at least give it a shot at living. I know there are some lfs that have a lack of standards as well. Its just that petcos lack of care standards is the same across the entire brand. I would put them more in the categorie of a puppy mill rather than LFS when it comes to their fish care and sales practices. They buy in bulk and try to sell off as fast as possible before their current stock perishes. Fish have very short life spans in their stores. But in any case glad to hear you were able to return it despite their ridiculous policies.
