What temperature do you find ideal for your reef tank? just curious to see different opinions/reasoning. ive been keeping my tanks around 78f-80f just because that what i was taught. ive noticed some people keep theres around 75-77 wich i didnt even know was ok. Is there a difference in coral color, growth, overall health??

76 is my target. 75-77 chiller swing. I would keep if cooler 74 but that's hard to do in summer.

I think everything is happier at 76 as opposed to 80.

hmmmm.....

My guess is that only folks with properly sized chillers can keep their tank at a fixed temperature.

The reality is that tanks without chillers fluctuate, my guess is that the range is 78-83.

My tank is set for 78 which it stays at for the most part but a few times per year it can see a day or two of 80 or better.

Q. What is the best time of year to dive in Queensland?
A. The warm waters of Tropical North Queensland are ideal for year round diving. Water temperature can vary from 22? to 28? Celsius (75? to 85?F).

Summer (Dec-Feb)
Overall great marine life activity with plenty to see
Visibility - Excellent
Water temperature 29?C (85?F)
Generally calm sea conditions
Low to moderate rain - generally at night

Autumn (Mar-May)
Overall great marine life activity with plenty to see
Visibility - Good

--------------------------------------------------------------

Water temperature 25-27?C (80?F)
Calm to moderate sea conditions
Potential moderate rain

Winter (Jun-Aug)
Minke Whales & Humpback Whales
Visibility - Good
Water temperature 22-24?C (70?F)
Moderate sea conditions
Low rainfall

Spring (Sep-Nov)
Humpback Whales & Coral Spawning (Nov)
Visibility - Excellent
Water temperature 25-27?C (80?F)
Generally calm sea conditions
Low rain fall

------------------------------------------

Bali Water and Air Temperatures

The water temperature varies from site to site and is generally set between 24?C and 28?C (75F and 82F), an eventual drop to 22?C can be encountered at open ocean dives where we dive to spot ocean giants like Manta & Mola Mola

Typically 78-82. On the crazy hot & humid days 83.

MH 250W/2x T5's DIRECTLY on the tank, no chiller & central AC on always in summer (set to 72-75).

All my corals are prospering.

My tank is always between 79.5 and 80.5. With two heaters and a chiller.

I believed with the higher temp you need more oxygen exchange but I presumed everything are at a higher metabolic rate = more coral growth but also more fish waste.

I read that but do not have the reference to back it up.

Same here with temp and I agree with the above statement..better growth rate at warmer temperatures with fish and coral (just don't exceed temperatures above 82)bacteria,fish waste will also increase which in turn your water parameters are going to fluctuate.
