I'm sure at one point or another we've all looked at our tanks and wish we did something different from our initial aquascape. I seem to be looking at mine daily and moving a rock here or there or taking it out entirely.

While doing a search on Powerhead locations I stumbled across a pic of a tank with dual islands. I immediately thought how cool it would be to see my Chromis hanging around this island and my tangs swimming through this trench. .......for those of you who've met me I appear to be a real normal guy but sadly I suffer from "mustbeperfectitis" or in some corners of the world aka "neversatisfiedodis".

Now since that's out in the open I would love to know what is the best way to re-re-re-re aquascape an aquarium that is safe for livestock. I'm always concerned for the wellbeing of the reefs inhabitants. I do not want to see them get overly stressed out. This will be the first time I re-aquascape with the system being filled with fish, a few corals, and inverts. So who has some pointers? Some do's and don'ts that I can use as I break it down and reorganize.

Upgrade to a larger tank. LOL

It really depends on how much livestock you have and if the corals are attached to the rocks. Moving corals and rock around constantly really stresses everything out. Unless you really hate your aquascape just leave it alone and try to keep your hands out of the tank.

depending on your stock level there are few ways to go about it

heavily stock with fish try getting every one to a safe place b4 you start or leave it in. they wont be in your way.

heavily stock with coral. i would suggest putting all coral in sump or a temp bucket while you do aquascaping. corals are more fragile and have no ability to doge rock slides =D

few fish and few coral. take out every coral and put it in corner of the tank where rocks wont be placed. the fish will take care of them self.

lastly. pinky promise your fish and coral this will be the last aquascape

I did this on my stocked tank and it went great. Scariest part when was my hippo tang hid in one of the rocks i pulled out and was out of water for like 10-15 minutes. But I found him, got the rock back in and he's doing great. Tank has taken off since then..couldn't be happier.

I started with a 30g rubbermaid and put all rocks and coral in there with pump and heater. Cleaned out the sand bed, and reorganized. Biggest challenge was getting it done before wife lost patience..

Back was killing me in the end and fingers were scraped and had some small infections so i highly recommend wearing good gloves when handling rocks and corals....

That is fantastic news! I cant believe it can actually be done before our wives loose patience. I thought for sure i would be in the couch when i start this fiasco.
