I run my light cycle later in the summer. Especially since we are hardly home during the day to enjoy the tank. Actinics turn on at 2pm and off at 12pm. MHs turn on at 3pm and turn off at 11pm. This helps out dramatically. During Fall, Winter and Spring I start the lights at 10am.

I have two 4 inch fans in the canopy and one of those black HoneyWell turbo fans on the sump. I also have a chiller set to 83. This summer has been really good. It has not been on that often. The turbo fan does one hell of a job. Alone it drops the temp 3-4 degrees. The only draw back is that my water evaporates like crazy.

What killed me was when Con-Ed stepped down our power by 5-10%! They did not notify us, and our AC was barely cooling the living room.

My AC just died, I have found that this usually happens when Con-Ed steps down the power... Now I have to find a way to have my AC repaired or buy a new one without money!!!

Alfred, stepping down the power is a monumental no-no. Any electrical appliance that runs a compressor (refrigerator, air conditioner, dehumidifier, etc) should always be on a dedicated circuit. Fluctuations in 'juice' is not good for compressors. When they step down your power it has negative effects on these types of appliances. In the long haul it will shorten the life of the compressor.

Call Con Ed and make a claim, make them pay for your new AC it is in fact their responsibility to replace anything they break.
