OP seems to think everyone's tank is in the same environment. Two walls in my unit are double layers of cinder blocks that are excellent insulators. I also have little to no ventilation. Before I had a tank, my living room would easily reach 95 degrees with the windows open. Sometimes I'd see the devil, and he'd laugh at a $15 fan.

ok, i have a 45g system with a dual fan set up on it as well as a 10" blowing directly on water and a window fan blowing in from window next to it to put a breeze on glass to try and keep temps down, i have hit 84 degree's on my tank ( im far from a noob ) this is my first year without a chiller, but i do plan to make a chilling device for it
to the op's other comment, yes you can get away without alot of the equiptment, as long as you have none to barely any fish, wc alone will not keep your parms up, and seeing you have a nitrate issue i would assume you have to many fish or feeding too much. and a skimmer would help knock those nitrates down ;)
not that some of us are know it all's, but a decade in the hobby has taught us a thing or two.
i do always tell people there are several routes to winning a race, just have to figure your route out

My tank however is at a comfortable 80 as usual. I don't have a chiller or an AC, just a $15 fan. Why people get rid of their tanks in summer is beyond me. Btw I only have a 34 gallon tank.

what is the room temperature that your tank is in? I know you said outside was 97 according to a weather app but perhaps with the oceanside breeze and elevation the room is in the mid 80's?

I'm not sure but if I keep my fan off the tank will easily reach 84. So I'm assuming this is the room temp. The highest my temp rose was 85 last summer and the lowest was 64 during hurricane sandy for 3 days. No casualties. I only have 1 fish and 1 shrimp so idk why I have nitrates but now that I bought some Acans I read they need nitrates. However my sps do not so I hope I can find a balance to keep this mixed reef happy.

op = origanal poster
tank will go to what ever the room temp is plus a few degree's because of any pump in the water will generally raise temps 1-10 degree's pending the type of pump. and ya might try another nitrate kit, or your sand or rock could be leaching it

This is my first acct #1. Never got banned #2 never changed names #3. I'm a " noob to saltwater" only 2 tanks over last year but not a noob to FW tanks over 10 years in hobby. How I'm being a wise as I don't know. Oh don't hav 2 weeks " experience " and if your implying that its impossible to get by w a minimum set up maybe u should read a little more and see how many people only do 5% water changes and are successful. I'm here to learn and hopefully spread my minimal knowledge so if u don't like my posts MOA ( google it ) .

Oh you mad that I use only a wp25 and LEDs while u have 20 pieces of different equipment for your tank? I have a nano 34 gallon I don't need all that stuff I used to have a bunch of filtration on my 8 gallon coz that what I kept reading at first that u need chaeto and purigen and chemi pure and skimmer and uv and controller and ecotech mp10 is the best. When in time if you pay attention to your tank and don't mind doing WC weekly you can get by w non of that stuff. And I did for months. Not saying its the best option but for the people who are new and think saltwater tanks are so difficult I'm here to tell you that it's not much different from fresh water and there's nothing to be scared of.
