I woke up this morning..turned on the tank lights and everything is dead!! the water was cloudy....the only things that survived seem to be the hermit crabs....all the snails are kicked up on their backs!! I'm not sure if this is the culprit or not but I had my moonlight sitting above the water on this little opening where it can shine through and this morning it wasn't working and it smelled burnt...so I placed it on the shelf and picked it up a few minutes ago and this white liquidy stuff was under it...no clue what it is....there are 3 things that I'm not sure if they are dead or not a rock of zoos, gsp and another rock of polyps they are all closed up still and the lights have been on for a good 3hrs so far =\ This was a new tank and I didn't have much yet but this is horrible..........I lost a frogspawn, kenya tree, and 2 types of xenia =\ and am not sure about 3 I mentioned earlier but my hopes aren't to high...I've had a few other tanks and this has never happened...never lost a coral before...I know it was nothing tank wise..all my params were perfect and last night before the lights went out everything was nice and healthy looking and the water was crystal clear.

It's probably right around 2 months old....I'm not sure if there was a blackout last night....I'm on staten island but it sounds possible.

I'm not sure, I just know it smelled burnt this morning and wasn't on and this white pastey liquid was coming out of it...maybe some of that got into the tank?

Arghhh I'm so angry...this was my favorite tank I've had by far and now I gotta tear everything out of it to get all the dead snails out! The worst part is that I'm sure some of you have seen me asking to buy this stuff mentioned in the WTB section.... well a kind nj reefer gave this stuff to me for nothing! He wouldn't accept money or nothing and now this! My gf doesn't know about this yet but she won't be to happy =\

white liquid? sounds to me like the acid that comes out of batteries, but I don't know. were the moonlights very close to the water? Was there enough liquid to create drops which could have gone into your tank? the only thing I could blame for your loss is this. were the parameters in check before this happened?

Yes all params were fine...I did a wc 2 days ago and checked params yesterday....everything was fine....did I mention the tank stunk? I just did a 10% wc a few min ago and picked out everything dead I could find...took a good part of the day but everything is now back up and running. Just an empty tank now =\ Any suggestions on what I should do? This is a 10g nano....just got my nano remora today and hooked it up so hopefully it can clean out some of this nastiness.

I will be doing more wc in the days to come...I just hooked up the nano remora a few hours ago and the thing is already foaming up...I'm impressed with it's performance.

So sorry to hear about your losses and setback.

You should really be running carbon aggressively. If it was battery acid that dripped in, you might want to do a 100% wc and still run carbon.

Good luck,
swimmer
