Hey...
Can you help me set up my Apex network so I can access the system from work/etc?

So, I have the apex jr w/o display and I have to set up the network through my computer.

In order to be able to access the apex outside of my home I need to get some info from my router/set up a network.

I just got off the phone with Time warner and they say that people in NYC cannot be given their remote access information. I understand the safety precaution....

But now do not know how to get the information I need to access my apex.

All of the apex tutorials I read say I need to know port forwarding information.

Surely, some of you have Time Warner and have worked around this.

I also think the APEX help site (help for setting up the system) needs this information as well, so I've come here first since this may be a NYC specific issue.

*since this stuff is all likely sensitive info, I'd prefer that this be transparent and stay within the thread. If I know you then we can chat offline too but only if you're someone that I've known for years and have a high profile status here.

Do you have a time warner supplied router? In the setup pages of your router(also where you would setup your wireless router ID and Password) there is section that should be labeled port forwarding. You also need to get a service such as Dynamic DNS so that you could access your router/apex outside of your home.

do you have the apex unofficial guide?

Hi there,
It is a time warner supplied router, netgear model name.

I did read/browse the guides, and the part I get hung up on is the router access section.

I have the IP address of the router and the username/password that is on the back of that router.

However, it does not work.

When I called time warner they said that NYC people are not given acccess to that information for safety reasons. I asked if I was ever given the ability to change the username/password from the stock, and was told 'no, NYC clients are not given the ability'.

Apparently, I cannot even change the name or password of my WIFI settings either.

Call back time warner. That answer is BS. Try another support person. Tell your neighbor has your wifi info and you need to change it or something...and if they offer to do it for you, be like yo while your in there can you take care of this port forwarding i need...

You have every right to the info for the router in your home that you are paying money to rent.

Thanks guys,
I know this definitely sounds fishy. Especially since they wont even let me change the name of my wifi.

Before I call them back I want to try out the guide Kasei is suggesting.

I'll pm you to ask about what I do to connect No-ip with the port forwarding website.
No-ip began free, but some parts of it require fees and is not explicit (to a person lacking in computer knowledge of this type) as to its purpose.

Thanks!

I had the same problem and they told me the same thing but i finnaly figure it out.
Connect ur apex to the modem using an ethernet cable
On ur computer conected to d same router search on the neptune site for an update on the firmware
Once is update it Ur computer should recognize the apex and u will b able to see the ip address assing to the apex. Sounds more complicated than it is
I just did it today by my self. U can do it to bud!!!
We dont know eachother for years but more then welcome to txt me or call me.
Good luck

Tuni... it's a bit more time consuming than it is difficult.
Set up a No-IP account...
Enter into your router... it'll end up being something along the lines of Username: Administrator/PW: Password if you haven't initially secured the router. (This should all be in the owners manual, if it is not verify through Netgear's website on how to access)
Setup port forwarding on the router, usually need some number as the port is usually blocked off, so make one up like 8181 to open port. etc etc...
then access through the IP that is given to you from no-ip (ie: 62.193.67.4:8181) and it will grant you access into the apex. hth :)

Every router has a default name and password and all routers can be reset back to stock. You need the name and model of your netgear router. Look up default passwords to it. The catch is you need o reset it back to stock and that wipes all information out of the router which isnt the end of the world but all your wifi devices need to reconnect. In order to do a complete reset hold down the reset button for 30 seconds with the router on. Then while continuing to hold the rest unplug the power cord from the router count to 15 then plug back in the power cord. At this point you can release the rest button and the router will be set to factory defaults. For netgear routers the Username is: admin and the password is: password ( for older routers its 1234). You can pm if you need help. Once you have access you can change anything including port forwarding to your apex and allow for access to your phone or whatever you need
