what "was" this?

I need to know if i missed out on a good opportunity or not.i ordered figi live rock a few weeks back and placed the big pieces in my dt, and just dumped the smaller ones out in my sump.My sump recently cracked so i had to remove all rocks and i came accross this piece..what was/is it?

Is it dead lol? I placed it back in my dt hoping a for a miracle.but i know white=dead
