+1 on the float valve. It's easy to install on most resevoirs (mine's a 5 gallon bucket), and will stop this problem.
$50 is WAY cheaper than the 1000's you will pay in damages....
I have a mechanical pressure switch, float switch, a solenoid on an apex and one of these leak controllers on my ATO... only make water in the sink for WCs. Learned that the hard way.
