My Tap vs RO/DI

Was using tap to measure out how much water is in the bucket for the ESV salt. When I seen the color of my tap I had to do a comparison photo between the tap and RO/DI. I definitely don't want to use the tap water for my fish tank. Never mind drinking it. Tap is reading 43 TDS.

Tap is the one on the left. Thought it was clear which one would be the tap water.

switch buckets. the bucket on the left looks like a older bucket then the one on the right. if you cover the water and just look at the bucket it has a yellow film already on the bucket

rodi water is always clearer then tap. im suprised it took this long for you to notice this T. :lol2: How much stuff that is taken out with that rodi unit

Left bucket has a yellow tinge to it, even above water line.

The buckets are the same color, same bucket, same everything. Im guessing the water is making it look yellow kinda like a mental trick your eyes are playing.

I know RO/DI takes out all the junk out of the water but the difference amazed me. I've always had bad water in the house. I installed a 2 stage sediment and carbon for my drinking water that links into the RO that I change out every 2-3 weeks. The filter is brown/tea colored in 2 weeks.

even the outside of the left bucket looks more yellow. Go put both buckets in direct sunlight and look at them critically.

You guys were right. The buckets are different, don't know why I got two of the same but for some reason I now have 2 different buckets, must be my wifes doing.

So, did another water change today, swapped the buckets so the yellow one is on the right for the RO/DI water and the whiter bucket is on the left with tap. Water is still yellow although not as contrasty.

Yup, the tap water on the left looks a bit brown/yellow. Although NYC tap water is low in minerals and TDS, I am told it has a lot of sediment. That must be giving it the color.

You have to see my untreated water during summer months when all the sprinklers are running. I have to change my prefilter at least 3 times.

I am in lower Westchester and it is my understanding that we have the same water source and I have noticed the same for some time now. I believe it is rust. My TDS come in 23 here + or - a little depending on the time of year. My sediment filter is red when I have to change it. I run lots of freshwater tanks as well, so I use RO waste for those tanks and even that water is clearer than straight tap. I Sometimes use straight tap and aerate it for 24 hrs, for a fresh water WC and you can see the rust/sediment stuck to the side of the bucket.

My TDS in NYC is ~35 at the tap which really isn't that bad compared to other places. I drank tap water all of my life and have very straight teeth. I've been giving my youngest son RO water and now have to pay for braces. It gets you at one time or another

Its probably rust. I know in my area of BK its all in the water.

Thats why I drink RO water!
