Hey guys, I upgraded my nanocube 12 to a biocube 29 some time back and 2-3 days after upgrading, both my clowns came out with MV so I ended up giving them away to someone who could have medicated them. Its been 5 weeks and 3 days (yes I've been counting heh)since I removed all fish from my biocube and today I decided to put 2 small clowns in. I read online general safe time is 4-8 weeks, raise tank temp to 85-90 and the Velvet cycle can be done as soon as 3 weeks. Considering my tank is usually at 82-84 I figured I should be safe after 5 1/2 weeks. Anyway, my question is, if there is a chance that the tank still has velvet, how long would it be until I'll know?

Thanks,
Eros

I think he is talking about Ich when he mentioned 10 weeks..

Why are you so sure you were dealing with Velvet and not Ich? Did the original fish end up passing and if so how fast?

Since you have already added new fish, not much you can do now but wait and observe them. You'd likely know within 2 weeks if the tank had velvet in it. If it was actually Ich, there is an excellent chance they will catch it as 5 weeks is too short a time to leave the tank fallow.

Do let us know what happens & good luck to you!

This is the first time I'm hearing 10 weeks for Velvet. I've read multiple writings saying 4-8 weeks is good. Ugh. I'm pretty sure it was velvet, the fish died within 5 days of noticing it (from me, to him). He tried treating it, but it was too late. They lost their appetite even with garlic extreme, their breathing was intense too, and it just escelated really fast. Also I'm under the assumption it was velvet because they had a layer of slime on them, sort of hanging from their body as they swam, it was really noticable under the blue LEDs at night.
