And if you go with apex and vortech you have to purchase the wireless versions of vortechs. Also you have to purchase the apex add on module the wmx to control the vortechs with apex

I'm not trying to make your decision more difficult but if you are considering purchasing an apex and vortech, don't forget to look into tunzes such as 6055, 6095. They are models that are fully controllable by the apex. All you would need it to purchase a cable that is able to connect to the apex ports. I am currently using to 6095s and I am able to create random flows and use the feed mode functions to stop or slow pumps at specific time periods. I love them I switched from an mp40 and mp10 and the tunzes are dead silent in comparison

Which model would you recommend for my tank? 110 but it will be a FOWLR
tank. And how many will I need? The tank has one overflow on the right side. Thanks

For a FOWLR tank I think you could go with the simplest APEX JR. honestly.

That's what I was thinking. Not sure if the price will justify the higher model. Will I be able to control my powerheads with that unit? A few guys here suggested I go with Tunze powerheads or maybe Koralias. Thanks

From my research you need to get the vdm module for the other units below the top shelf unit. Here's a comparison link:
