Yikes! thats a lot of head ;) I will put some more thought into this tomorrow to see if I can come up with an alternative to the mags that will make it worth while.

That would be great. I could easily use the savings. Besides, I've got spare pumps for almost all of them.......brand new, never seen water. Buying one pump, with one backup, with one to do maintenance on would be a welcome rellief.

Thanks Rich,

A simple salt spray test would be to hang the screws with nylon thread and then just spray them twice a day with some tank salt water. You have to wipe the screws off well with alcohol first and don't let your skin oils get on them. If they are rust prone you'll see it pretty fast, within a day or two, usually metal is tested for a week or two, or until the rust becomes heavy and the test is moot.

Just to update i finally got an email response from them. They said the original email with my pics was forwarded to their manufacturing department and that they will get back to me as soon as possible with a solution. I will keep you guys posted.

not sure y mags r so popular with all these problems. I got a quietone 6000. i hope it don't rust. i hear eheim is good too. theres so many other brands. i would think competition should force the mags to shape up.

i agree with you there chief, if everyone that uses the mags calls, i guarantee they change those screws out.

I spoke to them a while back ago.Danner(mag drive) stated they once used plastic screws ,Reason they stopped is.The screws would break in the pump and then the pump is not usable :banghead: :banghead:

Now we can ask the question this way

With all the money they make ,you would think they would havea product that doesnt rust ,or look into more research withthier screws they use

Ronen, i clearly stated to them that it's such a manufacturing defect. I told them that how can they manufacture a pump with screws that rust. Supposely they were assured by the engineers that the screws would be safe. So we will see where it goes from now.

If anything they should manufacture two different style pumps, one for submerged and one for outside. The outside ones can keep the screws as rust is not that big of an issue. Then the submerged ones can simply have a twist cover that requires no screws. I think that's a doable suggestion. It might require some manufacturing revisions, but something needs to be done.

Is gonna go nowhere ,srry to say
We are talking about a huge company ,,Lets say every MR member stops buying mag drives ,that only 1200 or so ppl ,you think they wil go out of business,,Hell no

They will always win in the long run
1st qeustion they will ask you
what are the time periods between cleaning you pump ,It should be 1 month time .
so if you clean every month you should not have this prob ,so they got us

If you do maintain every month mi dont think you shoud have this prob
JM 2 cent
PS i dont clean my pump every month as well ,so shame on me too:rolleyes:

Unfortunately Ronen is correct. His analogy about maintenance monthly is right on the money. That is why every pump I own, powerheads included, give that same instruction. It is basically their disclaimer.

BTW, there ain't no way I clean my pumps but for twice a year (if I'm lucky), maybe every 7 or 8 months! Shame on me.

I totally agree with you Ronen. I know that im just a drop in the bucket. But if i can get it replaced, or at least get them to consider changing their screws, then i feel like i won. I really like the pumps, they are reliable. I guess the trick is to change the screws as soon as you buy them.

I will do more maintenance on the pump even though it has the nylon screws now. That was the purpose of installing the Union. Before it was a pain to get to it.

If anything else this thread served as a reminder to those who have forgotten to change them out.

Peace
