It's a super-sensitive coral and they usually don't last long. Mine was beautiful with a good 2 inch extension on the polyps. Then one day a moving RBTA grazed it and it went downhill from there. It ended up dying in about a week after that. I'd keep a close eye on it, if it doesn't recover in a day or 2 get it out of there before you risk any other coral. And get some carbon in your tank quickly.

It's a hard coral to keep long term because of their natural habitat in the wild, although I have heard of a few success stories....the only goni I ever had any luck with is the red with blue mouths from ORA...I got it in March and it's bigger and prettier than when I first got it even with my clown trying to host in it.

Most people would consider success with one of these corals being able to keep it alive for over a year. In most cases they look like they're thriving only to rapidly fall apart for either no apparent reason or for reasons which would hardly affect other corals.

Good look with it though, they are beautiful specimens.

Keep it low. Even though it likes a decent amount of light. Also these goes don't like chemical remidies, so dont use it again. They are super sensative, but I have had tons of luck with them, I have 5 in my tank right now and they all fully extend. Please send a picture. If the slime is on the base it is ok, but if its on the arms then try a quick rinse, nothing more.

Off and on for years. The current 5 have been going for 1yr+. They are a variet of frags, two are now true colonies. My one bit of advice with them is that they need one corner to in essence hide, they cant be out in the open. They like to have a sense of protection, but still need decent flow, not too much, just enough to make it look like hair in a light wind.

Ok my fellow reefers it's done I used my turkey baster and blow away the slime and what was left was the skeleton....so in 5 days I killed it... Had to be the dip...

Friend, it wasn't the dip ;)

There are a few species that sometimes do well in captivity, especially in relatively experienced hands. The red Goniopora that ORA cultures is the best example. Many if not most of the Goniopora that show up in stores are G. stokesii which almost always die in expert hands. They always die in inexperienced hands.

If you give it another try you might be lucky and get 2-3 months out of it, but I promise you, they will all die. It's up to you how much money and life you want to waste ;)
