Hi all,

I recently purchased a new little Sailfin tang. It's currently residing in my QT tank. I 'm glad its there because it's got ick. The tang currently it's eating pretty well. Which method is preferred to get rid of the ick.. hypo or copper(cupramine)?

Thanks all.

HYPOSALINITY is used as a QUICK course of action when you have no medication handy and will not cure the fish. Meds deff
Hypo will cure the fish, It is not used as a quick alternative it is used as an alternative instead of using meds. Most people believe it is easier on the fish than copper. But how bad is the Ich as asked before?

It's strongly recommended as the first step in treating ich diseased fish prior to placing them into a QT for long term treatment with the proper medication for what ails them.

Stand somewhat corrected..... TY

First, jaa1456 is correct, Hypo will cure the fish, if, and this is a big IF, it has ich. As for it, Hypo, being quicker, well that's not the case, as it still takes the normal time for the ich to run its course. And yes, most people use Hypo because it's easier on the fish than copper, which for some fish, copper can be a problem. In the end both work, but usually copper has a better result than Hypo.

As for Hypo "being used as a QUICK course of action when you have no medication" well if the fish has ich, then it's better than doing nothing at all. So you're right there.

to eridacate the problem faster, hyposalinity and copper can combine, but both can tremondously stress the fish, try feeding nori or mysis soaked in garlic, and let the fish fight it off by itself. Also make sure the QT is well established.

It is strongly suggested that you use one method OR the other. It is not suggested to do both at the same time!

the fish does have ick, there are spots all over and it's scratching. I've been feeding it nori, sparlina, mysis all soaked in Selco and garlic. I have a veggie clip holding nori 24/7. I'm not feeding it alot, just a little of food , most of it goes into another tank. The QT tank is a 45G, w/ hob filter, bare bottom and has been cycled. The tang is the only fish currently in the QT tank. I know both methods will work. I do have cuprmine on hand. I wanted to know which would cause the least amount of stress on the fish. I'm not sure if the tang handles copper well.
