Mandarin Behavioral Change

When I first got my blue mandarin about 6 or 7 months ago he used to turn white and find a hiding spot between or under rock ledges then go to sleep. In the past month or so, he sleeps on top of rocks or out in the open on the sand and maintains his deep colors. Googled but couldn't find any info on this change. Anyone know why or experience the same with their mandarin?

Actually mine used to do this as well. I think the nocturnal changes may be linked to thickening mucus layers.

Yeah, turning white and thick mucus membrane is normal. Mine doesn't turn white anymore so I'm wondering why his defense mechanism isn't turned on every night when he goes to sleep.
