My hippo is stuck in my overflow! He must have slipped under where the return pipe comes out. Is there an easy way to get him out? I am having a hard time getting him out? He always seems to go to the bottom when I attempt to get him.

ive always used a small net

take the overflow out of tank if possible and pour into a big pot or something and then pour water into dt tank,,,and restart ur overflow

if the drain comes out of the bulkhead easy pull it, let the fish get sucked down into your sump.. then get him.. itll be an interesting ride...i really cant think of a better idea if the smallnet doesnt work

Thats probably going to have to be a long small net LOL

Do you mean the grated part at the tip of the pvc piping? Im kinda nervous to do that, I never did that before

dursos can be pulled

thats the way mine were they were slip fittings into the bulkheads and were not glued so i can pull them if i got a snail stuck, or something to that effect

im talking abt the whole durso(pvc drain) that goes all the way to the bulkhead, take the entire piece out.. it should twist alil as you pull and it should slide right out with minimal effort

shut your return pump down, let the water line level off, then pull the durso out of the bulkhead,only the water in the chamber will drain, along with the fish..

If you do that, I would disconnect the hose underneath and catch the fish and all the water in a container.
If you don't and that fish gets trapped in the hose it may be a problem.

haha, i guess i forgot to ask that part, i was asuming bc he was using a small net the fish was small.. either way tho if its too big for the drain when the water is out just grab the lil guy.. as long as it doesnt become sucked to the drain like the little boy and the dyke..:lol:

Hippo Tang Update:

Hippo Tang update: He made it. I accidently pulled off the overflow pvc drain. I noticed the water was getting flushed down like a toilet as my sump was filling up. I asked my 4 year old daughter to get a bucket as I pulled the flex tube off. Thank god for my daugher Hailey. Thank you Hailey. The hippo then went right into the bucket from the flex tube. WHEW, so far so good. My cleaner is working on him as we speak.
