I few months ago, I got in some rock with two of the cutest little crabs, each the size of an M&M peanut candy. I figured what harm could they do, so I threw them into my 65 gallon fuge. This weekend, I was 'fluffing' the chaeto in fuge, and got startled by a nearly 3" crab that I had forgotten I put in there. I guess he's been eating well.

I really dont want a couple of 3" crabs living in my fuge- it defeats the purpose. I have no idea what kind of crabs they are, but I really would prefer to give them away and not just simply kill them.

Soooo, does anybody have any interest in a couple of crabs. You can use them for octopus food, or toss them into your sump.

Q: You say he is 3" now, what do you think he has been eating?

A: All the detritus and garbage in your fuge. If you don't have anything that he is picking on in there I would let him stay, he is keeping the place clean and helping to break things down naturally. Worst comes to worse, just put him directly into the sump and let him live out his life in there.

I would guess hes eating the pods and mini brittle stars unless he has developed a taste for the macro algae that's in there.

The water is pumped up into the fuge which sits above the sump, so there isnt a whole lot of detritus in accumulating inside, and what is, tends to be very fine. Too small for him to eat (I think).

I figured when I put the crabs in, they would pick up some of the fine matter on the bottom of the fuge or an occasional pod, but now that this guy is on his way to becoming big enough for stuffing and broiling, I am concerned that he is going to decimate the pod population.

I thought about putting it into the sump, and that would be OK, but if he gets sucked into the return pump, it might jam it.

This was the smaller of the two crabs. I have no idea what is is but Im glad hes out. Taking apart the fuge was pretty nasty, even though the water going in to it has passed through a filter sock and my sump, there was a layer of very smelly mulm on the bottom. I siphoned it all out through a sock. Maybe I should throw a turbo snail in there to keep it clean...any thoughts?
