So my pair of rod's onyx clownfish just laid their first clutch of eggs!!!

i'm very excited and very surprised. didnt see that coming. came home yesterday and they were hard at work taking turns rotating around the area. it was very cool to see.

so i do not have the room or setup to raise the fry at this time. i understand if you dont want to raise the fry you just let them alone and they will get filtered out or eaten by other fish (i have a burgess butterfly, will it eat the fry?)

also curious, since the parents are so lovely :P is it feasible to give someone else the fry so they can raise them? if so does anyone in manhattan want to try it? They laid the clutch on saturday night so next weekend they should be hatching!

i was so surprised b/c the male is pretty young! only just over 1 year old; he's still getting his color in -- just filled in the black dorsal fin last week!

anyone interesting in trying to raise the fry?

FYI - Looks like these aren't going to hatch. they got dark and shriveled and i think the male has eaten most of them as a result.

i've heard this is normal with the first batch as they are often not fertile. i think the male didnt give it the juice, he may be too young.

apparently there are many more spawning to come though so it's exciting.

When my Ocellaris pair started laying I slid a white tile into the spot they were using. They quickly started using it and I could swap out the tile and hand the eggs to my buddy Brian who raised them.

Tiles don't really add much to a display but its a good way to get the eggs out.

BTW, stunning pair of fish! and that Anemone....WOW!

hey all!

yes i have updates. these crazy clowns are now in full swing and lay eggs it seems nonstop. as soon as 1 batch releases from the spot on the rock where they lay, they are back at it the very next day! crazy.

i have no experience raising them and no time at the present for time consuming projects or things that need to be attended to that couldnt skip a day or 3.

i have seriously been considering putting a piece of plastic in there and letting someone come pick them up to raise but i dont know if that even works. i have a few PMs to go through on the subject, work has been crazy. i want to raise them myself some day though b/c the breeding pair is so cool and i love clownfish so of course.

hey thanks for checkin in! the clowns are doing great. i moved some things around and the have their own little island now with the anemone. they lay eggs every couple of weeks. one batch should be hatching in a day or so, i can see the silver eyes already.

so yeah i have not raised any batches yet, but am increasingly interested to try. i dont have much time at all, but i want to give it a try. i think i'm going to start setting up a system for it and see if i can just get one batch raised.

i'm trying it! they hatched 9 days ago and i started out collected about 20 fry. i lost several in the first 3 days but since then have not had any losses. i have 10 little ones in there. in addition to rotifers, i've been feeding otohime for the last few days.
