Feeding anemone

Hi Manhattan Reefers. So I just picked up a pair of semi-picasso clowns. They are small, the female is just over an inch and the male just under an inch. I am happy to report that they have taken up residence in my BTA. It is amazing to watch the clows swim through the BTA's tentacles.

I feed my BTA twice a week with silversides or shrimp. Now in the anemone's haste to eat, I fear it could accidentally engulf one of the clowns as well. Especially since they are so small.

I am sure I am just being a bit paranoid about my clowns safety, but is they a reason to alter the way I feed the BTA now that the fish moved in?

I wouldnt fear it. They wont get stung by the nem and it wont close up fast enough to devour them. I think youll be totally fine. The nem benefits from them as well and youll see them feeding it at times most likely. I used to feed my RBTA half a silverside a couple of times a week but havent fed him anything in a bit due to him growing like crazy- it split the other day, but neither of them have attempted to do a thing to my clowns and my clowns will shove a little mysis and flake when I feed the tank to them.

bereleah theres no guarantee that they will. Some never do, they can live totally normal happy lives with never being hosted by a nem. My True Percs took 3 weeks maybe 4 actually before they dove in finally. Be patient and itll come:splitspin

Like Jimmy said, there is no way to know when or if your clown(s) will host an anemone. Luckily my pair hosted on the second day in the tank. I had a single false perc with the same anemone and that clown never attempted to host.

but since i put the nem in on friday one of my clowns started to act funny, jumping around like never before, its running after my goby as if he's trying to host it.
is there an explanation for that?

LOL yeah some people say that theyre born with the protective mucus some say that they have to basically get the mucous from the anemone so in a way they get zapped. Either way Id say theyll host before too long. He may have tried to be hosted by the nem and gotten stung maybe.

Just keep in mind clowns are well.... clowns theyll act funny at times also so just give them time and I believe one day youll come out take a peek in the tank and there will be your clowns in the nem.

Sounds crazy but I have heard putting a picture against the tank of clowns hosting a nem. They will see it and host theirs.
Anyone hear this to?

Yes i've heard this as well, it's worth a try!
As to the anemone eating the clowns, i'd be more worried about the clowns eating the anemones food, when I feed my 9 inch LTA my little 1 1/2 inch black saddleback male will not let my LTA eat, and if I try to chase it away it just bites me and swims away, they're some brave little fishes!

Hahaha. Yeah they are tough fishes. I didn't even think of the clowns stealing the nem's food. Then again, one of my clowns thought I was food everytime I put my hand in the tank so I am not surprised.

I've never heard that but hell maybe fish are like kids the way they imitate other people lol. Pretty neat idea!
