I bought a filefis this weekend to kill off my glass anomies, and he started nippin at my sps I became annoyed. Then the fish decides to start eating the glass anomie on my clam... ok I was happy for that but I read they are reef safe but yuo need to be cautious. Has any one on this site had one of these little fish and if so what is the out come. I know he will nip and nip at sps so I am def not happy about that. What I am realy asking is do these fish nip at crustations and inverts. I think the clam would fall under a crust. species. I am just being cautious because I do not want to wake up and have this fish eating my clam beacuse if that happens he is going to have a home in my sump, or in a fowlr.

A clam is a shell fish but it's not a crustacean it's a mollusk the same family as snails and the octopus.Your clam is not in any danger but there is 50/50 chance the File Fish will nip on your SPS.

dre there is 100% chance that he will I saw him attacking the shortcake. So one more nip and he will find a home eating in the sump but i will give him the food he loves in that sump. I dident know off hand what species they were in but thank you for the clarification.

Ant..files are known to eat/nip corals....in larger systems the damage they do is barely noticable, I know a few people who have them, but in smaller systems like your 40 you will see it....IMO once the aiptasia is under control get it out.
