I have a Sailfin Tang about 3", Healthy but only 1 problem, he has this white thing on his tail that looks like salt. At first I thought it was ich but it has not fallen off yet. Now it looks like he has it on his lip. Should I leave him in my DT and let that fall off hopefully soon or should I take her out and put her in the QT? Does anyone know what this is and what can I use to cure it? Please help. Don't want other fish in Tank to catch this. Thanks to everyone in advance for the replies.

Your tang my be stressed alittle and the immune system has weakend causing this minor outbrake. I would watch it the next few days to see if more develop. If so I would then qt for 8 weeks. Have you noticed your tang scratching on rock? You may also want to invest in a cleaner wrasse or shrimp 1st to control these few salt grain spots of it is indeed parasistic. Salfin's will usually be the 1st fish to acknowledge a cleaner. Can also try garlic extreme to boost the imune system. Good Luck!

No scratching from him just that, The cleaner wrasse tried him before twice but I think my six line wrasse kills him all the time, within 2-3 days. Always add garlic extreme in the tank. Thanks though. Will be adding more greens in the tank. Thanks everyone. Does anyone else know what this might be?

Does it look like this? If it does then it's Lymphocystis - Cauliflower Disease

it could be lymphocystis which is common in angelfishes, tangs, and butterflies. Looks like this: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/viraldislymph.htm . It's generally not lethal unless it attacks the fish's mouth causing it to stop feeding. Theres also a very good chance that your six line wrasse killed the cleaner wrasse and stressed out your tang causing it to get the lymphocysts.

Definetly the Lymphocystis, I've had him in there for a while and the sixline never has chased him. Damn so if it gets to the fish mouth it can stop eating? It's on his lips but has not stopped eating, eats more than all the other fish and is the first one on grabing the food. Hopefully it won't happen in my case. Thanks everyone. Just one more question, How can I get rid of that and can another fish catch it? No one else has shown signs of it.
