This is what this fish looked two years ago in it's yellow phase.
She has recently changed to look like the next picture, this is the same fish

Eventually they look like this old married couple. I don't remember how old they are but they have been spawning for a few years. I have four of them that all get along together although they chase the young one.

funny you posted this paul. i was getting ready to post on RC about how to tell sex of them. ive had mine for 8 months or so and they live together along with a pistol shrimp, one of them is darker then the other, are these mouth brooders ? here is a pic of mine, not to high jack, i am assuming the male is the larger and darker one which photo doesnt really show

other then my red manderin and a harley shrimp they are the only guys in there, what i am thinking is the female hasnt really been coming out even when i feed, so almost wonder if they are at that time, id never know if they laid eggs thought, their house is under all the rock and dont want to move rock around any more

Awilda, thats them. This yellow one lasted about two years before it turned gray, but I think mo other one turned much faster. Of course I don't really know how old they are when I bought them. Also maybe it has nothing to do with age, maybe it's envirnmental or food

I tend to agree with you Paul. I had mine a couple of months before he/she turned, then it turned back about a year later. My tank did go through some changes just before it reverted back to it's yellow stage.:splitspin
