I had been considering getting a longlure frogfish as a single inhabitant of my 12 aquapod that has been running for 2 weeks, but I also wanted to consider other stocking options. If I were to go with a peaceful fish reef I would get something like 1 tankbred ocellaris clown, 1 flame hawkfish and 1-2 pajama cardinals. How compatible are bangaii cardinals with pajama cardinals. Is it possible to have 1 with 2 pjs? And is this tank stocked there is 20 lbs of live rock, 20 lbs sand.

haha i like it. And it is much cheaper for me to get the angler. Theres a humbug damsel and a big jewel damsel in there that would be a pain to catch, i guess ill just leave them as lunch. Are longlure anglers hardy? The tank has been running for 2 weeks with a nice cleanup crew of 10 turbo/astreas, 1 serpent star and 6 scarlet hermits that are all alive, but I got 10 nassarius snails that I saw were all living when I got them and have since not moved at all. I will take a nitrate test tomorrow if it is zero should I assume the tank is cycled?

I have a 14 running for over a month, letting everything get set. Here are a few angler tips. Make sure you watch it eat in the store. Watch it for about 20 minutes to see if it is healthy, no sores or abrasions etc. Make sure the colors are nice and bright (as they should be) not pale and fading. Most importantly make sure the fish never hits the open air. Make sure they bag it under the water, put enough water into the bag so that the fish will not come into contact with the air. Make sure when you acclimate you unbag it under the water. Never let it hit the air. If they gulp air thet can have issues and it can kill them because they may not be able to expel all of the air.

The tank has been running for 15 days and the nitrates are at 10 ppm according to my sera test kit. I have one jewel damsel since he killed the humbug and about half the turbo/astreas alive, all of the hermit crabs, and none of the nassarius snails and the serpent star is alive. Should i add carbon/ammonia chips to the filter now or should i wait?

you need to let your tank cycle...basically, empty livestock, but leave rock/sand/water in it.(You can turn lights off whole time during this)...then wait a few weeks(about 4), but every week change 2-5gls....then you can add livestock, but add very slowly as your system is new and you dont want to overload the system before it is ready to handle the bio load....you dont just build a house in 1 day, setup the foundation, plumbing, elec, etc...be smart or you will mess up the tank, and possib;y kill everything/turn you off to the hobby...patience, and proper maintence are the keys to success

I think you will also need more flow...do you have a skimmer? You should be able to hide the heater in the rear chambers(I think) and, if the back is clear, you could add a fuge to the rear chambers...look at chiefs nano thread, has good ideas for you..never listen to fish stores(as they generally want to sell you stuff and they dont care if it lives, ask ppl here)

"zbt3091" congrats on your setup... all advice giving above should be listened to...
here are my .02 ....
-
-take some live rock out, to view your single inhabitant better, and more often... with 10 lbs of liverock should suffice for your 12g.

-also never use ammonia chips in saltwater tanks... ammonia chips are meant for freshwater and not salt water...pls read instructions before using...
besides why would you want to get rid of ammonia if thats what you need in order to build the necessary bacteria?

I am very confused by your comments. I would expect that from a newbie. 15 days is not a tank that you can add a bio load and expect it to handle it regardless of what your tests show. How do you expect a star fish to live in a new tank let alone a 12 gallon.

Anyway, as far as fish go keep damsels out. They are too aggressive and this is a very small tank. My guess is different cardinals will not work but may have a chance if you start them off together. Look at what the e-tailer say about minimum size tank for the fish you want (there aren't many). I can tell you what worked for me in a 10 gallon. 1 clown goby, 1 neon goby, 1 pj cardinal and a chalk bass.
