I have a 180g AGA tank with 2 overflows, 75 gallon sump/refugium with a Octopus NW200, tunze nanostreams and a dual media reactor running GFO and carbon. The set-up has around 200lbs of rock and a shallow sand bed.

Current inhabitants are:
6.5" Emperor Angel
4.5" Humu Humu (Picasso) Trigger
5.5" Foxface (siganus vulpinus)
2" 3 stripe damsel.

I want more fish!

I'm currently considering:
hippo tang
sailfin or purple tang
a few more damsels
either another angel (bluespot or blueface) or a wrasse.

I'd like to add something "different" as in not your usual fish. I was looking at the Coris gaimard, but am concerned that the shallow sand will be a problem. I'd like an Auriga or long nose butterfly, but figured that they would be too timid.

Suggestions are most welcome, but I am NOT interested in porc puffers, other triggers, lions, groupers or eels. I prefer fish that are out and about as opposed to hiding in a cave all day

I would stay away from the damsels, as they get very aggressive even towards larger fish. No offense to you, but all of the fish you listed are not "different" fish. How about a tang you don't see too often, like a barienne tang, dussemeri tang, fowler tang, maculiceps or an achilles tang. Those are sweet looking fish. In case you couldn't tell, I love tangs.

Coris, checkerboard or melanurus wrasse to stir up the substrate and a yellow tang brighter color and one of the hardiest fish in the hobby. That should be it unless you plan to take out some of that rock.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I know. That's why I'm looking for something "different" ;) I guess I'm looking less for exotic and more for colorful, but not your average yellow tang - no offense. I've seen people pay thousands for "exotic" fish that I wouldn't pay $5 for, but to each their own.

Though I love frog fish it would most likely either get mauled by the trigger or eat the trigger depending on the species and size.

The 3 stripe never bothers anyone and he helps "clean up" after the trigger. I was looking to add damsels from the Chrysiptera genus, some of which are relatively tame for damsels. My other fish are semi-aggressive to aggressive so I think they can handle themselves.

200lbs of rock include what's in the display AND the sump. There's a lot of room to swim in the display. Maybe I'm overestimating the total weight of the rock - I took most of what was in a 500 gallon FOWLR tank.

GFO helps keep the algae in check. I feed them mostly frozen, meaty foods and the trigger is a pig. Doesn't matter what kind of tank you have. Phosphate is phosphate.

I have a shallow sand bed so am reluctant to purchase a Halichoeres or Coris wrasse. I'd love to purchase a Coris gaimard. Does anyone have a wrasse from the above Genus' that's doing well with a shallow (about an inch) sand bed?

Keep the suggestions coming!

As a matter of fact i have the Gaimard,Melanurus and Hortulanus that's why i suggested them. If you get small ones say 2-3 inch, an inch of sand is OK but as they grow they will need 2 inches or more. You can try putting more sand in some areas of your tank to accommodate them.
