My hippo nips at acans ,then xenia. I think once they start to do that they wont stop nipping on the same kind of coral, and they dont do it out of hunger. Powder blue are known to nip at zoas, thats why I never tried one. Also, maybe your zoa were dying in the first place, most fish would go after dying corals.

Hmm, that tendency seems so true-blackbeard's sohal started to nip acans and never stop after that.

i dont have a hippo tang. i wanted to get one but with all this info about them eating zoas, im having 2nd thoughts. thanks for all the input guys

i own a hippo myself, it does nip on zoas where it tends to rest at night. i guess it was trying to make its home comfy so tore down things in the way lol.

other than those watermelon zoas, it doesnt nip on anythin else - now its a good resident and just getting fat from shrimp diet.
