I started having a hair algae problem in my tank, so I decided on a natural solution.
I purchased a kole tang about two weeks ago.
He seems to be doing fine, but I dont know what he is eating.
I tried Flake, pellet, norri. and he does not eat any of it. however he picks at the rocks all day long, but not the hair algae.
Is he eating, should I be Worried???
PS. This is my first tang, not including a Sohal that I had for a week until I found out it would never be happy in a 72 Or a 3000 LOL.

My tangs told me that hair algae (bryopsis) tastes nasty and that they refuse to eat anymore of it. I had to fight it the old fashioned way....water changes :(

soak mysis in garlic and he will most likly to take it. his picking on rocks is good sing, but if the hair algae is too long, he wont touch it. give him some time he will come around. keep offering nori tough as they need it !

I have one and he will eventually eat. Mine eats pellets formula 2. But it survived eating algea off the rocks for a long time. If you have enough algea in your tank as it seems you do it will be fine.

When I had my kole tang I just put out some lettuce on a veggie clip and then feed him every other day some Formula 2 pellets and after a few days he started to eat the lettuce and pellets. Just make sure you watch him carefully. Usually with tangs they can be quite mercurial. One day they look fine and the next they are on their death bed. That's what happened to mine.
