Im loosing Fish,
I lost my Niger due to looked to me like Velvet Disease, Lost my clown tang dont know how, lost my small copper band( he looked like he was panting, now I noticed today another Tang has Popeye and Looks like some velvet on his belly. I do 5% water changes weekly, I monitor all elements, Ph 8.3, No2 5ppm, Phosphate 0, Mag 1350, Calk 425-450 Temp 80-82, Salinity .25

What the hell, Im getting frustrated here, do I just let nature take place and what 6 weeks before adding anymore fish?

Can you post any pics of the fish still in the tank?

Do any of the fish have cloudy eyes? Do you see only spots on their fins?

Have they been eating normally? Any unusual behavior (tother than the fish you describe as breathing heavily?)
Are they sitting horizontally in the water or are they pointing nose up toward the surface?
when was you most recently addition and which fish was it?

you have to get infected fish out of there before rest of fish gets infected! i had same problem couple of months ago with purple tang after keeping him in separate tank for 2 weeks with some copper , it healed him !

I dont have another tank to quarintine the fish... Shoot! I spoke with a member on the phone today (Kedd) and we both agree that some of the dead fish might be putting a little amonia into the water. I changed my Amonia remover media and carbon just for measures also, I will do another water chagne on Wed.

I add fish only when I see something I like but when I do Its mostly 2 or even 3 at a time, I will only add one fish add a time from no on and will wait a good 4 weeks before any new fish. Only the one fish with popeye has some cloading but its on his infected eye

Any chance of a clearer pic of that tang? It would be most helpful and help in figuring out what is wrong.

Would also like it if you could answer the question about which was the last fish you added and when that was?
Also are the eyes on any of the fish cloudy and are you seeing any spots on anyones fins?

I looked back over all of your previous posts and have found that the tank is a 225 and was set up at the end of October, but you have been having issues loosing fish prior to now.

I believe you mentioned it looked like the Naso had ich when you introduced it into the tank (lost track of when that was, a lotta posts to read!) Is that the fish in the pic or did you lose him too? If so, when? Did he die of ich?

Did you ever get the Sally Lightfoot out of there? Wondering why the Ritteri had a big tear in its side and died recently.

You might want to increase the size of your water changes as 5% for a system of that size with the fish load that you are carrying in there might be too small.

Please try and get a better pic of that fish if at all possible!

Update: Bill answered a couple of my questions while I was posting..thanks Bill! :)

2 or 3 at a time is even too much in your system.
Do you know if you experienced a cycle when you added the fuge?

At this point, until we figure out what is going on and CURE it, I wouldn't add anything to the tank.

IF we are dealing with ich, I don't see that you have any choice but to remove ALL of the fish from the tank and treat them with either Hyposalinity or Copper (not any of that Rid Ick or other useless ich products that claim you can treat the fish in your DT).

If you don't do this, you WILL be chasing ich in that tank until you are so disgusted that you leave the hobby.

The ONLY way to irradicate ich from a tank is to leave the tank completely fishless for 6-8 weeks and you have broken the ich life cycle.

After that point you would need to QT all fish that you add as well as corals (if a coral comes from a tank that has ich in it, you CAN have ich on the coral as ich does not die immediately when it isn't being hosted and it IS possible to introduce ich in your tank this way!)

I'm sure that someone will come along shortly and suggest that you feed your fish food that has been soaked in garlic. Garlic does not cure it, it only helps in making the food more palatable for the fish to continue eating, and perhaps causing the fish to have a slightly stronger immune system (great...except ich is a parasite, not a bacteria or viral infection, if you get my point).
The fact that you have approximately 20 fish in this tank tells me you would end up losing many of them if you try and go the garlic route and you will STILL HAVE ICH IN THE TANK once things possibly calm down.

It has yet to be proven that fish can become immune to ich, and frankly I don't have much faith in that argument as I don't see how anything can be immune to a parasite that bores through the body of a fish.

I am sorry to be the harbinger of lousy news, but you need to know your options.

Thanks Kathy,

Well I whent to Greenwich Aquaria and spoke with Jason and he also checked my water and came out with the same results as I did. So I will follow with Kathys advice and let the display wait 6-8 weeks. Then after that I will add One fish a month till I get the population I want with in reason of a 225 gallon tank
