Fire fish

I had a problem adding another purple when I had a 125 gallon tank. I however added him after one was established. He ended ripping the other fishes jaw apart.

how big is your tank? given there's ample space for each firefish to claim its own territories, it should be fine.

beautiful fish btw, one of my favs.

Timing

Tom,

I think you should be fine. If you add within a week. I guess I just got a mean SOB. If your purple and Helrich are not fighting then I'd go for it. When I place the two together, the mean one went right after him mercilessly.
shoot I should have added the two at one time. I wonder how long it will take before he is established. Maybe I will get another next week.

i have two purple' in a 65 and they show no aggression towards each other ( though a third was found dead with a big wound shortly after being added so it might have been killed by these two ). They tend to hang out together - maybe they've paired. I dont know if this applies to helfrichi's though.

I thought firefish are very peaceful fish, one time I had 6 in my 175G reef tank, they swim together.

They are easily scared by the other fish, and jumped out of my tank many times. Most of them disappeared from my tank within 3 months.

Do they live long in captivity?

I picked up a 2nd helfrichi they were all getting along for the past week Now they are both gone. I have a enclosed canopy my guess they went into the prefilter. Im so mad at this point, real hard to get in the filter. Im thinking of siphoning them out still not even sure if they are in there. I tryed looking in with a mirror still cant see them what is the odds of both disappearing on the same day they were in the tank this morning.

It's tough with these guys. Sometimes they burrow, and they are VERY good hiders. Look very carefully in between your rocks. My firefish disappeared for 2 weeks and then he popped out for feeding lol.

These are pretty expensive fish so I give you props for trying it!
