In a pinch cover the glass sides of the tank (construction paper works good) turn off all the lights and all the pumps and let the water be perfectly still. just after the tank lights go out.(unplug moonlights) shine a small flashlight down into the tank. The larva will swim to the light and you can gently scoop them out and put them into a larva tank.

Good luck!

I have a pair of Maroons breeding every 2 weeks for past 3 months. They lay eggs either on glass or overflow. The male tends to them constantly fanning them while both parents scare off potential "egg snatchers" and they are 100% successful in guarding them. After 4 days or so you can see the little larvae inside the eggs attached with their silver shining eyes looking at you. 2-3 days later they hatch (at night) and by morning they are all gone. Week later the cycle repeats.

I don't have the means or time necessary to make anything out of it as far as raising or keeping them but this is what I have learned from DiMarco (a clownfish breeder) that gave speech on this topic at the BAS a while back.

You need a ceramic tile so you can just remove the eggs with it. Scooping, netting will hardly work.

As far as feeding is concerned. It goes like this.

Phyto--->>> rotifers --->>> nh brine shrimp ----->cyclopeeze (very important if you want them not too look pale) ...

I wish I had access to tapes right this minute as the society has the whole speech recorded.

True Percula's laying eggs evry 15-20 days

Hi guys... great site! First my setup's... I have a 90 gallon bow front Fish only tank with 7 larger fish.. Q Angel, Hippo tang, Puffer, Clown Trigger, Percula clown, Cinnamin clown and a Hawkfish. All is well. Just added a 500 watt MH light I found online for $250 shipped. The problem is with my 40 gallon high reef tank.... I have 2 true percula's that lay eggs every 15-20 days like CLOCKWORK! I also have a yellow tang in the tank and 2 engineer gobies and a mandarin. They don't bother one another until the clowns lay the eggs, then the tank trys to get to the eggs. Anyway They lay the eggs on a piece of live rock near the anemone. I have a ten gallon setup with a sponge filter and water from the 40 gallon ready to go each time. I take the rock out making sure to keep it underwater at all times and move it to the 10 gallon when the eggs start to get silver eyes. I don't know how to hatch the eggs. I read a few things online about rotifers etc etc. But though someone here would know the best way to raise the eggs to a decent size. Looking for any help you guys can give.. Thanks Salty

I have no experiance but it would seem to me that it would be best to leave the clowns tend to the eggs as long as possible and then move them to the 10 right before hatching. I mean they clean and fan it so it must be important or they wouldn't do it.

Just my logic nothing really to back it up.
