You know I have kept them :) but here is my rundown....

~ I never rely on Live adult brine shrimp for a food source
~ I never rely on frozen mysis as the only food source
~ I offer live food supplementation at least once a month if possible (usually live mysis or ghost shrimp over the summer)
~ Make sure you have a system loaded with pods as an additional food source
~ If frozen mysis is what I choose to make up the bulk of the pipefish diet, I soak it in selcon at least twice a week for vitamins
~ As with seahorses, I feel the tropical pipefish do a lot better at 75 degrees

Check with Jonathan as he had a pair of yellow banded pipefish for several years :)

Rick, I had a Janns Pipefish for about 4 years. He just passed away recently. I think from old age, as I don't lose any fish from my personal display tank. I never fed it anything special. It ate pods. But that's the Janns Pipefish. Others have different requirements as Dom mentioned.

Mine lived happily with 10 other larger reef fish. It wasn't in a species tank. But once again, that's because the Janns Pipefish is able to survive on pods. Mine did not eat any prepared or frozen food.

I think four years was an acceptable length of time to consider it a successful attempt at keeping pipefish in a reef tank. They are a really beautiful orange, purple, red, blue coloration too.
